Remote-first · Serving businesses across the US and Canada

Remote IT support, wherever your business is.

We resolve 97% of issues without a site visit for clients ten minutes from our door. The workflow is identical for a client three time zones away: monitoring, security, backups, helpdesk and Microsoft 365, run remotely from Massachusetts since 2013. And when the problem is one old hard drive, it can come to us by mail.

The quiet truth about managed IT

Most of it was never local. Monitoring runs from servers. Patches deploy over the internet. Backups replicate to offsite storage. Helpdesk happens on a screen-sharing session. When your current provider fixes something, odds are nobody drove anywhere — and that has been true for a decade.

What geography still buys you is the hardware work: replacing a failed switch, running cable, standing in front of a rack. That matters, and we are honest about how we handle it at distance — pre-configured equipment shipped to you, local smart-hands coordinated for the physical steps while we drive the configuration, or a scheduled visit for the projects that warrant one.

Everything else, the part that decides whether your business has a bad year, travels at the speed of a phone call.

Who calls us from out of state

Remote & hybrid teams

Staff in five states, an office in none of them. Identity, security, devices and support built for how your team works — because so is ours.

Referrals who moved away

Thirteen years of word-of-mouth means clients’ owners, families and former colleagues end up everywhere. The support they were referred to does not stop at the state line.

Multi-state businesses

A New England headquarters with locations or crews elsewhere. One accountable team across all of it, instead of a different provider per office pointing at each other.

Cloud-based organizations

If your work already lives in Microsoft 365, cloud apps and hosted systems, your IT provider’s zip code stopped mattering years ago. Choose on competence and response instead.

Data recovery, by mail

The old hard drive with everything on it

Some of the calls we get from out of state are not about a business at all. They are about one drive: the PC that froze and never came back, the laptop that will not boot, the external drive with ten years of photographs on it. The files are usually still there. The machine around them is what failed.

So we take the drive, not the machine. You ship it to Middleton, we read it on our own equipment, copy everything we can recover to a new drive or a USB stick, and ship it all back. Where the drive itself is physically damaged, recovery needs a clean-room lab, and we tell you that before you send anything rather than after.

  1. Tell us what happened. A call or a note: what the machine did, what is on it, how old it is.
  2. Ship the drive. We send packing instructions. Just the drive, or the whole machine if pulling it is not practical.
  3. We recover and return. Your files on a new drive, the old one back too, and a straight answer about anything we could not save.

Old PC not worth fixing? Ask about a refurbished machine set up with your files already on it.

Knowledge Designs (Greg Pagliarulo) is absolutely amazing. … he offered to take a look at my hard drive at no charge. … shipped my hard drive all the way to MA from CA. After a few hours, he was able to see all of my data. I was so elated. He copied all my files, & pics, etc., and he has shipped it back to me. … Greg is so knowledgeable and is so kind. I highly recommend him and Knowledge Designs. Thank you Greg. You’re a lifesaver.

She found us through an eBay listing for a hard drive she did not win, and wrote this after the recovery came back in the mail. Shown as an excerpt of her review; the full text is on our Google profile.

Five years, entirely remote

I have worked with Greg at Knowledge Designs for almost 5 years. The services he offers and the process of setting everything up, especially all done virtually, is incredible. He is ahead of the curve when it comes to customer service and integrating my business with the latest technologies, and following up periodically to make sure everything is running smooth and up to date.

The honest limit

When you should hire local instead

If your business regularly needs a technician physically present within hours (production floors with hardware that stops the line, premises with constant physical churn), hire someone within driving distance and we will say so on the first call. Remote-first is the right model for most modern small businesses. It is not the right model for all of them, and pretending otherwise is how providers lose trust.

Remote support, answered

Yes. The overwhelming majority of managed IT work — monitoring, patching, backups, security, helpdesk, Microsoft 365 administration — is done remotely regardless of where the client sits. We resolve 97% of issues without a site visit for clients ten minutes away, and the workflow is identical for a client in another state.

Physical work: replacing hardware, cabling, Wi-Fi surveys, printer hardware faults, and first-time network buildouts. For remote clients we handle those by shipping pre-configured equipment, coordinating a local smart-hands technician for the physical steps while we drive the configuration, or scheduling a visit for larger projects. We are upfront about which of those your situation needs.

The same way it works locally, minus the drive: a scoping call, read-only access to document your environment, monitoring and backup agents deployed remotely, and a written summary of what we found. Most environments are fully onboarded without anyone touching a screwdriver.

Businesses with remote or hybrid teams spread across states. Companies that moved away from New England and want to keep a provider they trust. Multi-state businesses that want one accountable team instead of a provider per office. And organizations whose work is already cloud-based, where geography stopped mattering years ago.

Yes — 97% of calls answered within five minutes during business hours, because answering the phone does not depend on where you are, and a small dedicated team covers after-hours and holidays. The only difference is on-site response, which we are honest about: if your business needs a technician physically present within hours on a regular basis, choose someone local to you, and we will say so.

Through the same controls we recommend to clients: multi-factor authentication on everything, least-privilege documented access, encrypted connections through our support platform, and audit logs of every session. You can see who connected, when, and why.

Often, yes. If the drive itself is healthy and the problem is the machine around it, or a firmware password that has locked it, the files are usually intact, and we copy them to a new drive or a USB stick. Ship the drive to us in Massachusetts and we read it on our own equipment. A drive that is physically damaged needs a clean-room lab, and we say so before you send anything. A client in California mailed us hers and had her photographs and files back.
